2018 Acura ILX Interior Review

2018 Acura ILX Interior Review

The ILX’s interior quality is mediocre compared to that of luxury rivals. Rear passenger space and cargo room are sufficient, but headroom can be a bit tight all around. Some upgraded tech features are overwhelming, but common functions are easy to control.

“Interior materials are high-quality, with only a few hard plastic touches as reminders that you bought on a budget.”
Kelley Blue Book

“The cabin, especially with the cloth seats, which I normally don’t mind, feel downscale compared to what I think an Acura feel like. Granted the comfort factor is fine, and they seem to have good support with big bolters (sic) on the side, but the rest of the cabin just felt unremarkable. Good on ’em for putting a volume knob in there instead of that annoying slider, and generally, the controls are easy to figure out. It’s nice when you can just plug in your iPhone and go, too.”
Autoweek (2017)

“There isn’t much to differentiate its cabin from that of a well-equipped Honda, and its touch points don’t feel like they’re up to snuff for a luxury sedan.”
Edmunds (2017)

2018 Acura ILX Interior Review: Seating

The 2018 ILX seats five on standard leatherette. An eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, and a leather-trimmed steering wheel and shift knob are standard. Leather seats and a four-way power-adjustable passenger seat are optional. The ILX has two sets of lower car-seat anchors and three upper tether anchors. The lower anchors are buried deep in the seats, but there is enough room to maneuver around them and it’s easy to attach the car seat hooks to them once they’re located.

The ILX’s front seats are comfortable but don’t offer enough support for spirited driving. Adults should have enough legroom in the second row, but headroom is tight in all seating positions because of the standard moonroof.

“Headroom is lacking front and rear, partly because the ILX comes with a sunroof. Outward visibility is excellent for the segment. … Although the ILX’s front seats are comfortable and should fit a wide variety of bodies, they’re completely lacking in lateral support, which is odd for a luxury or sport sedan aimed at enthusiastic drivers.”
Edmunds

“The new Acura ILX seats four adults comfortably and five in pinch.”
Kelley Blue Book

“In back, the ILX has plenty of room for a couple of adults, which shouldn’t come as a surprise. The Civic has been similarly roomy for quite a few years, so although this is a compact sedan, your rear passengers won’t necessarily feel the pinch.”

2018 Acura ILX Interior Review: Interior Features

Standard features in the 2018 ILX include dual-zone automatic climate control, push-button start, proximity key entry, a moonroof, Bluetooth, a USB port, a 5-inch audio display screen, and a rearview camera.

Optional features include GPS-linked climate control, a color multi-information display, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a seven-speaker premium audio system, a 10-speaker premium audio system, satellite radio, HD Radio, navigation, voice recognition, remote start, the AcuraLink telematics system, rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, road departure mitigation, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, and a dual-screen touch-screen infotainment system. The infotainment controls are user-friendly and include physical buttons and knobs for common functions. However, the optional two-screen layout can be overwhelming at first.

“We don’t love the stacked dual-screen infotainment setup. The top one is far away, though it’s well-shrouded to prevent issues with glare. The bottom screen has low-rent graphics but the buttons react well.”
Edmunds

“Most controls are easy to use, but the Acura’s dual-screen infotainment and navigation system takes a little getting used to. Don’t let it scare you; its functions are actually quite intuitive.”
Kelley Blue Book

“Controls in the fairly basic test car were easy to master and use. Setting and accessing radio stations on the color screen in the center of the dash was dead simple. Climate controls with a pair of dials for temperature and a small array of function buttons sit low in the center stack but still within easy reach. The MID between the large speedometer and tachometer dials is just big enough to be easily legible, and thumb buttons on steering wheel make it easy to scroll through its menu of monitored vehicle conditions.”

2018 Acura ILX Interior Review: Cargo

The Acura ILX has 12.3 cubic feet of cargo space, which is about average for the class. The rear seats fold down to allow storage for longer items, but even when the seats are folded, part of the space between the trunk and passenger cabin is blocked by an oddly shaped, oblong pass-through.

“The trunk is competitive at 12.3 cubic feet, but the pass-through opening is tiny.”
Edmunds

“Trunk space is about average for the class at 12.3 cubic feet, and the ILX’s rear seat folds flat to expand the space.”
Kelley Blue Book

“You will, however, notice space limitations in the trunk, where maximum cargo capacity is a modest 12.3 cu ft.”
